 VISION

To make Local Government system responsive to development needs and aspiration of the grassroot populace.

MISSION

      Committed to achieving the goals of the Ministry through institution of good leadership, community mobilization and participation, partnership through Local and international cooperation, transparency, accountability and respect for constituted authorities and rule of law.

FUNCTIONS OF THE MINISTRY:

 1.  Co-ordination of Budget proposals emanating from Local Government Councils, maintaining records of annual Budget of the Local Governments and giving quarterly report on the status of their implementation and supervising Local Government Councils’ expenditure and financial Accounting in line with financial memorandum and other existing policies, rules and regulations guiding transactions.

2.  Development strategies to sustain cordial relationship between the traditional institutions and elected officials, Minister to their needs with the sole purpose of sustaining it.

3.  Develop a functional framework for good governance and provide policy guidelines on the operations of Local Governments in line with the provisions of the constitution and maintain a mechanism for speedy response to communal conflicts to safeguard the safety of lives, property and ensure the maintenance of law and security at the Local Government Level.

4.  Engage in capacity building for political leadership and staffers in collaboration with the Local Government Service Commission towards achieving the desired organizational objectives.

5.  Maintain up to date records on Local Government ‘Allocations’ from the federation account and the distribution and utilization of such funds on the basis of subsisting legislation and joint development initiatives with the State Government.

6.  Develop, facilitate implementation and continuous review of State Community Development policy document that would guide and accelerate the provision of infrastructure, goods and services to the Local Communities, and to domesticate all supported community based programmes with a view to sustain them.  For instance the Ward Development Project.

 1.   Purchase and distribution of heavy duty equipments for 25 Local Government Councils in Niger State

2.    Construction of General Hospital Sabon Wuse in Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State
